Baby, it's cold outside!!

The last week has been a real treat (please detect sarcasm here.) It snowed quite heavily for this area on Sunday night, and screwed up my tightly scheduled week.

I finally got back on track around Wednesday. But seeing the car thermometer register 5 degrees as I drove to school on Thursday morning was almost more than this Hawaii girl could take.

Three layers top and bottom, plus a heavy coat and I was still cold. Until I got to class and had to strip some of it off so as not to pass out from heatstroke. That raised a few eyebrows amongst my fellow students.

But all was forgiven when I got home to find that my paperwhites had started opening up!

Waning Days

I am hanging on to my last few days of Christmas break with a death grip, while at the same time, trying to get some thing accomplished around here.

I have been working to prep food for quick meals and grab-and-go snacks for when school starts interfering with life.

I made muffins (no picture) that are individually wrapped and frozen, and last night, I prepped individual servings of enchiladas when I made a pan for dinner.

Today, I cut and bagged portions of ham from an after-New-Year's sale ham. I kept a bag out for sandwiches this week and froze the others.

I've been working to straighten up the shop building. There are tons of packed boxes from our move out here, but most are going to stay that way for a while at least. The movers were very good to mark the boxes, so I know what is in them, and I know I don't have the space for everything.

I am turfing out some things and have a large pile of stuff to donate and another pile of trash and junk to go to the dump. I want to get as many boxes off of the floor, so I have been assembling the many storage racks that were themselves, packed in boxes. A win-win situation!!

There is still a lot of work to do in here, but I am happy with the progress so far!

I have also been spreading the gravel I got for Christmas around on the roads. Again, no pictures cuz, well, I am busy driving the tractor! Like the shop clean-up, there is much more to do, but I enjoy having a couple of projects to do when I need a break from schoolwork!

On the creative front, I have been just puttering. Most evenings I work a bit on a ripple blanket that will keep me warm while sitting in my recliner.

I'm really enjoying the 5 alternating colors and the neat zig-zag effect. It's a good mindless activity to wind down with at the end of the day. I see more of these in my future!

In employment news, I start my multi-day orientation on Monday. Next week is going to be a killer with school followed by hospital stuff everyday! Yesterday, I had my "fit test" for my protection mask that should keep me safe from TB and other airborne nasties. They put this tight-fitting mask on you, put an astronaut hood over your head and spray aerosol stuff in the hood to see if you can taste it. A little freaky, but thankfully, the first mask brand fit and I didn't have to try on anymore.

So, here's a question?

Does this respirator make me look fat?? Or like a duck?
