A crafting we will go!!

I have been very busy, just crafting my little fingers to the bone. All in preparation for the "C" season. I know, I know, nobody wants to start thinking about Christmas yet, but if you hand make things, it takes a lot a lot a lot of time to do it all.

Before I stun you all with what I've been working on, (okay, "stun" maybe a gross overstatement,) you must first admire the shirt Not Quite Grown sent me from her vacation in San Francisco. Please ignore the ginormous "girls" distorting the fabric!

So me! Thanks baby!

Okay, I have two additions to the Wiener Collection. Here we have... Chili Dog!

I know it's a little hard to see, what with the black background, but Chili has brown eyes.

All the dogs now sport a name tag and ball chain "collar."

Also, we have, Meaner Wiener, one tough cookie, wearing a bandana and extra chains (which don't show in any of these pictures!)

The Wiener Collection is about ready to go into my shop. I just need to write the listing blurbs and figure out postage. I know you've been waiting patiently for your very own bit of doggie goodness!! LOL

Here is something new I've been experimenting with. A canvas log carrier with decorative fabric insert.

When I was looking for something like this, all I could find were really expensive ones in fancy catalogs. Even the one at Target was made from suede for $50!! I mean, you are going to haul wood in it!!

I made some plain log carriers last year and they work really well, but are kind of boring looking. So, this is where you come in. I need some input. Do you think this is a good gift idea? If so, what kinds of fabric motifs do you think would be good. I can't decide whether to do more masculine themes, or strike out on the path less taken and do girly ones for women. Any ideas?? Thoughts?? Pithy, snarky comments about how stupid this is???

And finally, I am working on the Farm Fresh Collection of vegetable themed Christmas stockings.

This one, I made from a pattern from this book. Of course, she used $25 a skein silk yarn, so hers looks my more sophisticated. I also changed the leaves, 'cus that's how I roll!

I am currently working on a knitted corn-on-the-cob stocking and have plans for other veggies, like eggplant, beans, etc! Silly, I know, but somehow it seems appropriate this year!! I plan to put these in the shop too, since NEITHER of my children will be able to come home for Christmas, and well, they already have stockings!

So, life around here isn't all about mulch and weeds... just mostly!! Have a good one!!

MIL here------I am SO impressed with all your hard work in setting in supplies for the winter ( tho' my son will starve since he won't eat any of your works.) I am also very impressed with the clever doggies and think you should definately sell them in your etsy store. You have really turned into Hattie Homemaker since you moved to Tenn!!!!!!
Still think you are very clever and to hell with the dust bunnies! Love ya'

Well if I needed a wood carrier (and I LOVE wood burning stoves, so I wish I *did* need one!), I'd want a girly one. Who doesn't want to look feminine whilst carrying a grand load of wood??? My dh, otoh, wouldn't carry wood if his life depended on it, lmbo! But if he did, he'd want a masculine one...like fish (salmon, bass, etc...no pretty ocean fish), camo, a nice dark plaid maybe.

Although you stink for mentioning Christmas, I'd really planned on trying to make everything this year. Are no-sew blankets still cool? That's about all I'm going to be able to handle, I think.

Boy, you've been busy! I think the log carriers are a great idea. I'd definitely go with a masculine theme in hopes of coercing the males to carry in the wood. Or you could be like LLBean or whoever and monogram them!

Thanks girls! I went to the "Big" city with Studly today and got fabric for a girly carrier and one for guys with a camo insert. Will post them later (like... when I make them!)

MIL ~ Thanks for the love! If the world goes to hell in a hand basket, I will be able to maintain my Rubenesque figure! Studly, will be looking more like the scarecrow, if we are left with only my stores!

Kelly... not sure if no-sew blankets are the "it" thing anymore, but I believe that any handmade gift is great!

Anna ~ Monograming is a good idea, except that I haven't figured out my embroidery thingy for my machine!

I think the carrot stocking could double up as a willy warming in extreme weather conditions :)

You might have to make them in different sizes though lol

Marmy ~ Do you think we could start a fashion trend with carrot shaped willy warmers?? Would your boys be the first ones on their block to proudly use one?? That would be so cool! Tell them thanks, for me!

How about a little of both? It's hard to find fun guy designs, but I LOVE girly things:) I love all the new things-- The veggie stockings are awesome!

Not to worry... I speak "marmy" well enough!

Studly says that if you didn't live in a one sheep town, you'd have more fabric choices!

Actually, is there something in particular you are looking for? Maybe I can help. Have you gone online to see if some of the Doodle shops will ship to you? Might still work out cheaper than what you have to pay, even with shipping.

Oh! Tell Jacob that I'm working on the leaves for the jumbo corn cob stocking, so he'll just have to grow into it!!

You know, I just LOVE your little weiner dogs! I just might have to break into my emergency fund for one of those babies....

The wood carrier? I love it, really I do. I would think that it wouldn't matter if they were feminine or masculine as long as you keep the patterns simple. Like you said, they are for hauling wood before anything else....of course, I don't haul wood. It just may be that there are hoards of women out there looking for wood carriers in a lovely chinz. Ya think?

I am totally digging on those veggie stockings.....what a thought for a christmas theme! I could do everything all garden related! Oh, the thoughts crowding my puny little brain.....
